Committee papers

The society's historian and archivist, Graham Cousins, has uncovered a variety of documents relating to the management of the canal from the early days immediately after a committee was set up in 1825 to promote the proposed canal, right through to 1834 when the canal was in full operation. Documents from four particular years stand out for their historical usefulness and these are published here.

These papers provide an insight into the progress of construction with Crosley's reports for the years 1828 and 1829 and the Chairman's operational reports for the years 1833 and 1834.
