THE LOST CANAL OF CLAYTON & BROOKE
10.00am Sunday 1st January
2012 OS map 109, SJ944833
The traditional New Year's Day walk will take place around Poynton,
High Lane, and Middlewood. Our route will take us along the Macclesfield
Canal and Middlewood Way and will also explore a lost waterway that
closed in 1892.
We will meet at 10.00am at the Nelson Pit Visitor
Centre car park, Lyme Road, Higher Poynton. The walk will last
about 2½ hours.
Travel: Travelling from Macclesfield: from
the Macclesfield to Poynton road (A523) turn right onto Park Lane
at the traffic lights in the centre of Poynton. Follow the road
for about 1.75 miles until reaching Higher Poynton where you should
turn left onto Shrigley Road North just before the bridge over the
old railway (Middlewood Way). Lyme Road is on the right a short distance
along this road. The Boar's Head pub is on the left before the
turning.
As always, stout shoes or boots and waterproofs are advised.
No need
to let anyone know just turn up, but remember, if you are late
we will have already left.
